Hi friends, Welcome to Prepbowls! You can call me Arthi. I live in NJ and I was born and brought up in Chennai. A busy, bustling city in Tamil Nadu state of India. My native language is Telugu, but I’m also fluent in Tamil and English. I completed my master’s in computer science and was working as a technical recruiter. Love to travel and explore different places and their local food, enjoy gardening, I spend a lot of time in home organization, and food photography. My most favorite thing to do is cooking, and I absolutely adore cooking for my family and friends. My journey of cooking started at the age of 17, I’ve learned a lot over these years and continue learning every single day.
My family, I’m married to a wonderful person JR, who is very supportive, and without him I couldn’t have made it here. My two little munchkins AJ and AR are my world of happiness, and my best food critic is my family. They encourage me a lot to try different food from various cuisines and we completely enjoy tasting and eating new food. My first Inspiration for cooking is my mom, she is an extraordinary cook, I still have so much more to learn from her. Most of the traditional Indian recipes I’ve learnt from her and from my extended family, my athai and periyamma. When I got married, one of my mom’s gifts for me was her handwritten recipe books and many cookbooks from various Indian food culinary experts. I should they are a great collection of books I’ve treasured for all these years.

How Prepbowls got its start
My first culinary moment was in my 11th grade when I won 1st place in cooking competition for making a creative and a tasty recipe called as “Birds Nest”. It is made of fried potato balls with spices, vermicelli (similar to spaghetti) pasted around the fried balls and served with some boiled green peas in the center of the nest (fried potatoes) as eggs. I hope you’ll can visualize how it would’ve looked. I will post the recipe soon in the blog. Since then, I got inspired to learn cooking from my mom, and I also went to many culinary classes before I moved to united states. Now I am the king in my kitchen and its only me cooking for my family.
I used to try new recipes and click pictures of the food and shared it in on my social media page for my friends and family. Many of them got motivated to try those new recipes from those posts. They have asked me to write a book or to start a blog many times, but I kept pushing it off for so many reasons. Finally, I decided better now than never, and here I’m today with my very own food blog. I’m so happy with my job!

On a side note,
Like you all know there is so much work, lots of time and money involved to run the blog, please be considerate and don’t copy the recipe ingredients and measurements blindly. I do know that the ingredient for most part remains the same for all the recipes, but I try to simplify/ change the procedure/ ingredients, to make it painless and give precise measurements for all the recipes including the water, oil, and salt which most of the recipes don’t. Just without these ingredients exact measurements, I’ve struggled a lot in my initial days of cooking. Even when I completely followed the recipe, my food outcome will not taste like my mom’s or look the same as in the recipe pictures. So, I decided to make it a lot easier for my page followers by adding these measurements.
Please do leave your comment / feedback on the recipe posts if you like, tried it or have a question? or leave a review on my social media pages, so it may help others as well. Share the recipe with your friends and family, this helps more people to find the recipe online! Again, thanks so much for all your love and support.
Come, let us explore the world of flavors together!
